Kunzel’s Breakthrough

Jurgen Kunzel broke through to win his first AMA Supermoto Championship race at the Music City Motorplex in Nashville, Tennessee, in September of 2005 . The 30-year-old German was one of the top riders in the series for three years at that point, but bad luck kept the Red Bull KTM rider off the top spot on the podium until the Nashville race.

“It’s incredible to finally get a victory,” said Kunzel, who before Nashville had scored 10 podium finishes in three seasons with no wins to show for it. “I kept working hard and felt like my time would come and it did tonight.”

Kunzel won the first race of the Nashville Supermoto doubleheader after chasing down and passing Australian Troy Herfoss halfway through the 19-lap race.
