Steve Morehead (44F) was still a teenager when this photo was taken of him battling Georgia rider Roger Crump through a turn at an unknown flat track (check out the sparsely place haybales and the steel cable fencing). Steve went on to become one of the greatest Half-Milers of all time and earned the nickname of the Findlay Flyer. Roger’s biggest claim to fame on the national level was finishing a very solid fourth at the Houston Short Track in the Astrodome in 1974.

I remember Roger Crump. He was awesome at the Daytona Short Track. Rode an Astro if I remember with the cool Bultaco factory style leathers. Man I loved those things.

@Greg Tysor. Roger was my cousin. Unfortunately, he passed away in 1998. His brother Ricky is around and we talk quite a bit. I remember going to Dalton, GA, his hometown, to see him race. Before he was 18, he used to race under the name of Modell Gunth, as a joke.

Greg is right about Roger being awesome on a Bultaco with the “suede look” factory leathers. Another note is that most of those Buls were owned by a guy that gave Roger lots of his early mentoring. His name is Tommy Kirk. Yep. Tammy Kirk’s dad. They were all from the Dalton Georgia area.
