Mike Kidd looks like he's working it hard as he talks with Miss Camel (Winston) Lynn Griffis.
For the better part of a decade Lynn Griffis graced the podium at every AMA Grand National as Miss Camel. Griffis worked as Miss Camel GT for several years before coming to the AMA series where Camel and later Winston cigarettes was the series sponsor.
Griffis was a model who originally hailed from Alabama. According to riders I’ve talked to Lynn was outgoing and seemed to really enjoy being part of the Grand Nationals. She often traveled to media tours accompanying the riders. She became so popular that her photo and bio ran alongside those of the riders in series guides of the era.
From the mid-1970s to the early 1980s Griffis probably had more photos of her on the podium than any rider of the day since she was the one passing out trophies at every race.
After leaving the series in 1982 Griffis moved to Hollywood to try acting. Looking at IMDB it doesn’t look like Lynn’s acting career went very far. She’s listed as a bit player in just a few movies and TV series.
She was a peach.
The days of free cigarettes handed out to the racers! I still have my camel pro t-shirt.
