Aldana leads at Oulton Park – 1975 Transatlantic

David Aldana, racing a Suzuki, leads the pack as they splash their way around Oulton Park in the 1975 Transatlantic Match Races. “Just a little damp” reads the caption written by legendary British photographer Jim Greening on the back of his print.

This was the year the weather was so bad in England that the first two rounds of Match Races scheduled for Brands Hatch were canceled due to snow!

This was also the first time in five years the American team beat the Brits by the score of 277 to 243. Kenny Roberts won three of the four races at Mallory Park and Oulton Park, but it was consistent Aldana who led the scoring for the Americans.

This photo is another in the Jim Greening Series and it reminds you just how faithful the British fans are to their motorcycle racing. Reports say that not only was this race at Oulton Park wet, but it was so cold that it was bordering on snow. Yet thousands of fans showed up to watch the popular Transatlantic Series.

In this photo Aldana leads American teammates Kenny Roberts (2) and Pat Hennen (7). Brits Mick Grant (14) and Barry Ditchburn (15) can be seen heading up the second group of riders.
