John Kocinski is in the lead over Robbie Petersen and the rest of the AMA 250 Grand Prix field on the first lap coming into turn six at Road America in 1989. This was as close as anyone got to Kocinski that day as he pulled away to a convincing margin of victory. Kocinski won all but a single round of the 250 series that year en route to easily winning the championship by 44 points over Rich Oliver. He went on the next season to become the 250 World Champion.
