Team Honda 1980

This was Team Honda’s motocross and Supercross team in 1980. It wasn’t a banner year for Big Red. The highlight was Chuck Sun winning the 500cc Motocross National Championship, earning five of the eight nationals along the way. Sun was also the only Honda rider to win an AMA Supercross round that season. Steve Wise will also be remembered that year for winning the 250cc National at Red Bud keeping Suzuki’s Kent Howerton from having a perfect season in the 250cc Nationals. Wise ended up third in that year’s 250 MX series. In the 125cc Motocross Championship Richard Coon was the top-ranked Honda rider finishing fifth. Check out the modest transporter for the factory squad and the rider’s name duct taped over just below the window.
