Ken Davis (654) leads Ed Key (34) in a WERA sprint race at Road America sometime in the mid-1980s. Davis was a novice racing a Yamaha RZ500, but the two-stroke GP inspired machine wasn’t beyond Davis’ skill level. He dominated the novice ranks on the bike in the WERA North Central Region, often beating experts along the way. (Larry Lawrence photo)
You know, I think Ken is the only guy that ever did much with the RZ500. For some reason, the wobbly handling didn’t seem to bother him much.
Hey Larry, I’ve got a picture of Ken’s 500 and my Ninja 600 laying off of turn 7 at Indy (after Ken ran my head over), and I’m pretty sure you took the picture. Would have loved an action shot of that one, as I can’t remember anything about that day.

What year was that?

1985, first race of the year at Indy. It was the same weekend that Kurt Hall wadded up his 500 Interceptor coming onto the back straight.
