Jones vs. Carr – Indy Mile (1986)

Ronnie Jones races his No. 16 GF Racing Honda RS750 ahead of factory-backed Chris Carr on his Harley-Davidson XR750 in the Sunday Indy Mile in 1986. In those days Indy ran as a doubleheader with a Saturday night and Sunday day race, all held during the popular Indiana State Fair. Jones raced to the runner-up position behind Ricky Graham. It marked Jones’ best finish on a Mile that season. Carr, who was a second-year expert, finished seventh. Both riders are still racing, 24 years after this photo was taken. Carr is racing full time and is still one of the top AMA Grand National riders. Jones, who will turn 50 this October, comes out and races Grand Nationals on occasion, as he did last week at Springfield.
