Stoner fast on Saturday morning in spite of close encounter

Casey Stoner continued to show great speed at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during Saturday morning’s free practice, this in spite of hitting his right knee hard on curbing. The impact was enough to rip off the knee puck and Velcro from his leathers. No word yet if he dinged his knee, but I talked to someone who was on pit lane who said they thought Stoner was favoring his right leg after the curbing contact. Stoner topped the charts Saturday morning with a 1:40.331 on his factory Ducati. Dani Pedrosa was second fastest on the Repsol Honda with a 1:40.389. Nicky Hayden, with a 1:40.878 was fifth fastest and the top American.
