The 2010 Midwest Speedway Championship and Quad Invitational kicks off at 7:00pm on Friday, August 27th at Mid-America Motorcycle Speedway in Indianapolis, IN. Backed by Bloomington Harley-Davidson and Tucker Rocky this will be a rare opportunity for race fans to see 16 of the fastest speedway and quad riders ever assembled in the Midwest. This year’s event features the largest purse ever paid at a speedway race in the Midwest which has attracted an international field of riders. Coming from as far away as New Zealand, riders from Poland, Canada, Texas, New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Ohio, and Indiana have committed to the event.
An attempt was made to run the event in 2009, but a last minute thunderstorm forced the event’s cancellation. Getting a preview of the track prior to the rain, nearly all of the riders that entered the 2009 event took advantage of the promoter’s offer to return the following day for an open practice session so that they could dial in their bikes for the 2010 event. Verified by police radar, every rider shook his head in amazement when told of their top speeds. Clocked at 89 miles per hour, former Polish Speedway league rider and 2010 entrant Marek Ochal commented that his Jawa/Antig needed to be set up for a short track, and geared for a half-mile. 2010 may be the only year that Ochal will be riding in Indianapolis as it appears that he is returning to Polish Speedway League action in 2010.
