Tom Walther was one of the leading Canadian Superbike racers of the mid-1980s. Walther, like many of his countrymen, traveled south of the border to race in AMA Superbike competition. The British Columbian scored three top-10 AMA Superbike finishes in 1987 aboard his Honda VFR750. His best outing came at Laguna Seca where he finished sixth. Walther was a rider on the rise. That same summer he earned his first victory in the Canadian Superbike Championship and had been signed to race a factory Suzuki in 1988. Sadly Walther died toward the end of the ’87 season in a multi-rider practice crash for a Japanese domestic round at Mt. Fuji. Here’s a video of Walther’s first and only Canadian Superbike victory.
