Race announcer Rich Chambers interviews longtime vintage machine racer Dave Roper after a race sometime in the early 1990s. Roper has been part of America’s vintage racing scene from its inception in the early 1980s. He was the first American to lap the Isle of Man at over 100 mph. He’s still racing today recently competing in the vintage meet at Mid-Ohio. Roper was featured in this week’s issue of Cycle News.

And somewhere in my collection, I have an old AMA F1 race from Laguna Seca. I believe Kenny Roberts won the race, and back in the field holding his own on a bevel drivel Ducati was Roper… This must have been early 80’s

Mike……..in doing a quick check on my records I see that at least 1981/82 the F1 race was a double race.
I show Roberts winning the second race in 1982 but my records only go to tenth place
I’ll have to look later at my programs to see what year Roper is listed.
