Mike Smith leads a group of some of the best road racers of the early 1990s, during a WERA A Superstock race at Talladega Grand Prix Raceway. Smith (6) leads his Team Hammer teammate Kurt Hall (60), Mike Harth (65), Bruce Baldus (5), another Hammer member Britt Turkington (28) and Tripp Nobles (2) early in the race. Generous payouts from Suzuki attracted big-name riders to race in club events throughout mid-1980s to early 1990s.

  1. I’m trying to identify some of the other riders. Ordinarily I’d say that 59 was the late Donald Jacks, but I think this picture was too soon for him. Any ideas?

    I think you’re right, that’s probably not Jacks. I don’t know who the other riders in the photo are, including 86, who is right there behind the leaders.
