Knott vs. Albrecht at Road America (1984)

Boonie Knott (62), riding a Suzuki RG500 GP bike, races Russ Albrecht (20) and his Kawasaki ELR Superbike in WERA Formula 1 action at Road America in 1984. I believe Knott won the race after Albrecht was disqualified for weaving on the front straight. (Larry Lawrence photo)

  1. Larry,

You are correct, I was there that weekend and I remember a none to happy Albrecht loudly voicing his opinion of WERA after the disqualification…

Yeah WERA was really concerned about weaving at the time. You see the riders do it all the time in AMA races now and nothing’s said about it.

  3. Larry,

Always wondered what happened to Boonie (he hated it when you called him Bill). He was racing out of a 4 wheel drive, lift kitted van, when I first met him at Mid-America (76 or 77). Later hooked up with Dieter Guntner out of Detroit and then Norma Benneli (TTFN). Last I heard he had some legal problems. Hope that is in the past.
