No joy in Springfield — mighty Casey has flipped out.

It was a tough night for Daniel Casey in the first Grand National heat race. It appeared he hooked handlebars with another rider as the pack approached the first turn off the start. Casey went down and his bike flipped maybe 15 feet in the air. Casey got up, but his night was over. Here’s a short sequence of the accident. 1. Is the ambulence and other equipment left that close to the track with no barriers between them and race bikes all the tine?

Yes let’s hit Gas City next week. Get in touch with me.

And Bob the ambulance and equipment are on the track, but it’s a bit deceiving. They’re behind a wall and in no way in threatened by oncoming bikes. Plus the long lens makes them look a little closer than they really are.

  4. I have the same question about the Ambulance and equiptment carts. This is a National level race and it apears there is a 3 or 4 thousand pound vehicle parked head-on just a few feet of the racing line on the track. This issue should be addressed, we all know that a motorcycle verses any parked 4 wheel vehicle is never good in an accident in the community. But this is a closed course race track that should have protective barriers i.e. hay bails or fence, not vehicles linning the track. Ok, done with the rant, best of luck on healing up Danny.

I guess you didn’t read my response.

Let me repeat — The safety and track equipment is in no way in the line, or even close to the line and it would be impossible to hit them. They are parked behind a wall, that you can’t see, and the super-telephoto lens creates an illusion that the equipment is close when it’s not.

Believe me, the IMDA folks are good with track safety.

  6. My heart stopped when I heard that Danny was down and hurt. Like so many of us out there we have watched this guy for years. SuperMoto and what ever he could find to ride. He is one of the best. Prety spectacular if you ask me. Tony hope you made the ride home and remained sane. See you around.
