The Tysor Scrub

You’ve no doubt heard of the Bubba Scrub, but I bet you didn’t know about the Tysor Scrub. This is how Greg Tysor scrubbed in his tires before a race back in the day. This photo was shot at Little Talladega in 1987. I’m not just impressed by the ingenuity Greg and his buddies showed in the tire prep department, but check out Tysor’s guns!

Greg Tysor shows off his unique method of scrubbing in his race tires and the serious muscle definition in his arms. The poor guys helping Greg are the ones eating all the dust. (Larry Lawrence photo)

  1. I’m not scrubbing in would have helped one bit with those Conti TKVs. They must have been free because we all know how much traction K591rs and Metzeler Comp Ks had!

  2. Those old Conti’s had some super slick mold release from the factory. You WOULD CRASH on brand new tires if they were not scuffed in. Problem was they were too soft for the hot summers so you needed a new one just to finish. But…. when it was cool outside ( like the GNF ) or super slick Summit Point they were pretty dang good.
    Fun times !
