This one really has me scratching my head. This appears to be Mike Smith riding Jimmy Filice’s Camel Honda RS250 Grand Prix machine at Mid-Ohio in 1992. I vaguely remember this, but the exact circumstances are lost. If anyone remembers why Smith was riding the bike I’d like to know. I also don’t see his name in the results so I’m not sure he actually raced or was just going out to try out the bike. Filice was there that weekend, raced and finished fifth, so perhaps Smith simply wanted to ride a 250 and the team gave him a session on the bike.

I remember seeing Mike Smith and my buddy Cliff Bigoney bang on each other in a 250 GP race at the WERA GNF in either 88 or 89. So Mike definitely had some history in the class.

That’s one I didn’t remember. So Mike had 250 experience. Too bad he didn’t get to race in the AMA 250GP Series. That would have been fun to watch.

Jimmy had to go to hospital i believe for his wife or something like that tough to remember exactly. But he was coming back to the track and i was just doing a couple break in laps for him and mr. toomy to get the rings and stuff ready for his race if he made it back in time. It was a thrill as well just putting around. as well messing with the competition. I sure would like one of those photos.
