Kevin Murray and Chris Rogers were locked into a great battle for the WERA RK Chain Formula Three title when the series came to Putnam Park Road Course in July of 1994. Rogers championship hopes were seemingly dealt a serious blow when his bike blew in practice. Youngster Chris Ulrich stepped in to save the day for Rogers. Ulrich was to have made his professional racing debut but offered his bike to Rogers instead.

In the race Murray got through the horde of fast starting four-strokes in the class to take the early lead. Roadracing World Editor John Ulrich battled with Rogers for second. Those three riders quickly separated themselves from the rest of the field, turning lap times in the 1:21 range.

On the third lap Murray clicked off a near perfect lap and pulled away from Ulrich and Rogers. Murray went on to win by ten seconds over Ulrich. It was his third straight win in the series. Murray took home $750 for the win and the series lead.
