Phil Pummell apparently found road racing at Grattan Raceway so easy he decided to throw a little more challenging into it by riding with his eyes closed. Actually catching a photo while a rider is blinking is not all that uncommon. Tom Kipp was notorious for being captured on camera with his eyes closed. I once remember, I think it was a Dunlop ad, in which the photo of Kipp featured in the ad showed him riding through a turn with his eyes closed. Pummell did OK eyes open or closed, he was always one of the top racers at Grattan in the 1980s.
