Greg Esser racing his Honda at the Road Atlanta AMA 250 Grand Prix in 1987. Esser was one of the longest-standing veterans of AMA 250 Grand Prix. The Floridian raced in the series from 1985 (when he scored his first top-10 finish at Loudon) to the last year of the series, 2003. That’s 19 seasons of professional racing. Esser actually got better in the latter years of his career. He finished inside the top ten in the national standings six times. His best season was 1997 when he earned third in the championship behind Rich Oliver and Bobby Keith. Esser’s best individual race came in 1999 when he finished runner up to John McGuinness at Daytona. Esser was one of the riders who quietly tallied an impressive career of results of which he can certainly be proud.
