In 1985 John Bulawa won three WERA regional races at Roebling Road a week or two before Daytona riding a box stock Yamaha FZ750. It was good preparation. Bulawa went to Daytona and finished 16th in the 200 against a loaded field of high-powered Superbikes on his fresh off the showroom Yamaha. It was an amazing testimony not only to Bulawa’s riding skills, but to the capabilities of the new FZ750. Bulawa was one of those riders who came in like the wind and a year or two later no one knew what happened to him. The one thing I remember about him was he had awesome potential.

Followed up Daytona with another great Roebling weekend that spring and if memory serves I managed 5 wins in 6 races since I added an FJ600 on that day. Unfortunatley that night, everything I owned was stolen… Both bikes, trailer, truck and all that I had in it, as I traveled from track to track chasing Yamaha Contingency money.
