Adamo, Long and Quarterley – Road Atlanta Pro Twins (1988)

These are the three main players in the 1988 AMA Pro Twins (what was formerly known as Battle of the Twins) Championship. This is Jimmy Adamo leading John Long and Dale Quarterley in one of their close battles in the series that season. In this particular race Long emerged as the winner over second-place Quarterley and Adamo, who took third. Quarterley went on to win the 1988 Pro Twins Championship on a Fast by Ferracci Ducati. Long was runner up in the championship and Adamo third.

  1. John Long is riding a Harris Ducati Monjuic 750, with a big bore and stroker kit from Ferracci, turning it into an 850cc. The bike was bought and built new by Steve Wynne in England, who tuned Mike Hailwoods TT winning NCR Ducati. I still have the bike.

  2. Hi John

I have a two valve per cylinder 851cc FBF Ducati ridden by Quartery to win the Pro Twins championship 1988. I assume that is #32. If it’s the FBF 2 valve in the photo above it is the only photo I have of it in action In America. I still have the bike. It was imported into America from Steve Wynne (as a 750 I suspect) then exported to New Zealand after being modified by Ferracci and then superseded by the 8 valve 851 of the same bore and stroke. My two valve has close ratio NCR g-box, NCR cams, NCR stamped on the heads, Harris frame, etc etc. Wickedly fast for an old two valve Ducati… maybe the fastest ever!

I’d love any pictures of my bike in action…
