Scott Gray in the Weeds

In an optical illusion it appears that Scott Gray is racing his Yoshimura Suzuki Formula USA bike through the weeds. I found this old print with no caption on the back. If I were to guess I would go with Seattle International Raceway as the location. I recall a lot of tall grass in the back sections of that track. It also could have been Grattan Raceway, where they sometimes got behind the grass cutting. When Jackie and I used to sell prints at the races I once took advantage of tall grass, got low and did a lot of photos of this nature. The racers didn’t like them at all. They didn’t like the grass obscuring their motorcycles I suppose. The ‘artiste’ in me was deflated.

  1. Hi everyone.

I remember(and yup, we’re going back in the day) coming down (from Vancouver Island B.C. Canada)to Seattle International and watching the F-USA boys race. There were guys like Kurt Hall, Michael Martin, Donnie Green, Rich oliver, Dave Sadowski, Scott Gray and the like. Then there were team managers like Wes Cooley, I’m pretty sure John Ulrich “American Roadracing” was there alongside Keith Perry. It’s funny, the more I stop and think about this the more I can’t believe I’ve kind of forgotten about it. It was so awesome going to see these guys race as well as lining up holidays to go watch the GP’s at Laguna! I remember Scott Gray(looking pretty fat at the time) riding this one year old ex Muzzy full on superbike with crappy all black bodywork and being one of the fastest mothers out there despite competing against the methanol monsters! It was great! And I would love to do it all over again!
