Canadians Steve Gervais (55) and Steve Dick battle at the Canadian round of the World Superbike Championship at Mosport on June 4, 1989. Derrick Medaglia (56) can be seen coming up from behind. There was a huge crowd on hand to witness the first World Superbike race in Canada. Fred Merkel and Giancarlo Falappa traded wins that weekend. The very next week the series travel over to Brainerd, Minnesota for the debut of World Superbike in the U.S.

Derrick won the Canadian National Amatuer open and superbike championship in 1984 on a Suzuki Katana.

Thanks for that info Steve. I thought it was a great thing that so many of the Canadian Superbike riders got wildcards to race in the WSBK in those days.
