3-D House

Tom Houseworth leaning over the 3-D Racing Suzuki after the machine blew a motor at Road Atlanta during a 1989 WERA National Endurance race. 3-D Racing was a talented team with Dave Deveau and Mark McDaniel as primary riders. Houseworth went on to become crew chief for Ben Spies during his AMA and World Superbike championships.

  1. That indeed is the back of Mark McDaniel’s head. 🙂
That was probably a valve spring failure. Eventually we determined that the “well known”, “never breaks” brand of valve spring lasted about 6 hours and 30 minutes. No practice and they’d win. Practice and a valve spring would break 30 minutes from the end.
Switched to Suzuki kit springs and problem went away.
