Eight Hours In Grattan

Kurt Hall (1), of the Human Race Team, leads Team Suzuki Endurance rider Paul Bray (2) and the rest of the field at the start of a WERA Eight Hour National Endurance Championship race at Grattan Raceway in 1989. The Humans controlled the Grattan Eight Hour from the start and with less than a half hour left, had a comfortable four lap lead. Twenty minutes from the checkered flag, the Human Race Yamaha blew a motor and Team Suzuki, with Bray and Mike Smith riding at Grattan for the first time, went on to their fifth victory of season.

  1. Royale Racing finished 2nd overall that day after Zupans motor let loose. Terry Bailey and Doug Henry rode our asses off that day in 95 deg heat beating Team America(Frank Slaughter) on an FZR600 Yamaha. Woody Deathrage ran out of brakes with 5 laps to go. Royale went on to win the Mediumweight Superbike Championship and Third overall in the WERA National Endurance Series in 1989.

That was an awesome ride by you guys that day. I remember Royale Racing always being one of the most consistent teams in the series. Last time I saw you was where, Hall of Fame hanging out with Cook Neilson? Good to hear from you.
