I’ve seen Don Greene’s first name spelled Donnie for years. First rule of journalism, always get the correct spelling. Here’s fairly strong evidence (check out the windscreen) that it is in fact “Donny” Greene. This is Don (to be safe) racing his 250GP bike at Road America in 1988. It appears he was backed by a paint ball company at the time.
So Mr. Greene if you happen by this website sometime please leave a comment to let us know for sure if it is Donnie or Donny.

In his racing days Don Greene was known to most fans as Donny Greene. Here the three-time AMA 250 Grand Prix Champion races at Road America in 1988. (Larry Lawrence photo)
It’s Donny! Thanks very much for these great photos, you have the most comprehensive set I’ve been able to find. He’d be most appreciative of the recognition.

It’s been ages, just discovered this site and all the pictures of “Donny.” Good to see and wish I knew more about his whereabouts these days. I always loved riding with him growing up, and and also snow skiing with him on his birthday every year. He always pushed me to the next level, and I enjoyed watching and often helping him during his racing career, especially the early RD400 days. Good times.
