Solmax Racing and Scott Russell

Solmax Racing was a leading WERA National Endurance team of the 1980s. The squad took a quantum leap when they signed a young up-and-coming racer named Scott Russell. Russell was so good on the Solmax endurance machines. I clearly remember at Memphis on a wet track he would broad-slide the bike out of turns almost exactly the same every lap. He was so sideways it looked like Russell was riding a road race bike on a cushion flat track. Those hundreds of hours of endurance racing in all conditions later made Russell one of the best rain riders in the history of AMA Superbike.

  1. Classic pic there Larry,I watched Scott win the wet Loudon national in 92 or 93.He attacked the track like it was dry. I wont forget it.

  2. Is that a Woody Kyle logo on Scott’s lid? I think so. I think lot’s of people have heard of him but most don’t realize just how many future stars he built rockets for. What about a “Archives” story on my bud Woody.
