Joe Brett Williams was a leading privateer AMA Superbike racer in the early 1990s and was one in a string of successful riders from Santa Rosa, California. Scott Gray was the first star from the Northern California town, then came James Jepsen, Williams, James Randolph and Mark McDaniel. Must have been something in the water.
Here Williams is racing at Mid-Ohio on his Red Line Oil Honda RC30. Joe Brett scored several top-ten finishes AMA Superbike finishes an was one of the few privateers who raced the RC30.

At either the 1990 or 1991 Loudon Classic, John Owens was set up between the garages in the NHIS paddock to shoot portraits of anybody who wanted theirs done. One of these portraits was enlarged and framed. It was hung up in the Checkered Flag Restaurant along with other pictures shot by Owens. As the years passed, quite a few people wer curious as to the identity of the rider in the picture but nobody, not even John, could identify him. In June of 2008 I posted the picture in the WERA BBS and got an answer in about 4 minutes. Here is the picture, which still hangs in the restaurant to this day.
