Goodbye Buell

With the sad announcement out of Harley-Davidson yesterday that it would discontinue Buell, I thought it appropriate to go into the archives and find a photo of the very first Buell to score AMA national points. It was Harley-Davidson engineer and part-time racer Steve Wentworth who rode a Buell to a seventh-place finish in the AMA Pro Twins (formerly Battle of the Twins) final at Road America in 1987. This is Wentworth cornering his Buell RR1000 through Road America’s turn five. Buell will be greatly missed.

  1. Love this photo of steve wentworth. Just wondering were the photo came from. My dad Rob built that bike in my garage growing up in mequon wisconsin. He and Steve used to work together with Eric back in the day at Harley Davidson. Pretty cool to see online. I sent it to my father and he was excited to see a picture of it on the internet.

    Thank you,

    Josh

  2. Steve Wentworth is my godfather and uncle. He always talked about his racing but never had pictures. Plus he never said he was the first to get Buell national placement points. It is so cool. Thank you to the person who posted this brief explanation and picture!
