What was your shutter speed on that shot??
I had a similar photo of Bryan Smith with the blurry background, but the rider in the pic wasn’t as clear as your shot.

That was taken at 160th with fill flash since it was so dark that day. As you know, when you shoot with that slow of a shutter speed the percentage of keepers goes way down. I probably have five blurry images for every one I caught sharp like this one of JR. One of the benefits of not being on photo assignment, you can afford to experiment. Interestingly with practice you can get better at panning. There are photographers out there (like Brian J Nelson and Tom Riles) who can shoot this slow and get a much higher percentage of keepers. They’re pros and there’s a reason why their stuff is the most sought after.
